Our Story Began On A Porch
The Inspiration Behind the Creation of Front Porch.
The story of Front Porch began on my family porch and the stories passed down through eight generations from porch to porch.
Growing up in rural Tennessee, the front porch was a gathering place. Friends and neighbors, kinfolks and new acquaintances, strangers and salesmen, gathered on the porch to talk and share stories.
Folks sat in everything from old recliners to ladderback chairs, from swings to the floor of the porch with their feet dangling beneath them. The front porch was a focal point for the heart, the soul and the mind of the inhabitants and their neighbors.
I have engaged in conversation with some of the most fascinating people of my life sitting on a front porch.
My companions have included farmers and photographers, loggers and lawyers, road workers and writers, production workers and professors. I have spent hours listening to the stories of heroes and hypocrites, preachers and politicians, bricklayers and bootleggers, healers and drunks.
This rich tapestry of people and tales fueled my imagination, shaping me into a storyteller, and eventually sparking the inspiration to create Front Porch.
I’m a lawyer by profession, but a writer at heart. My front porch is the place where I feel most at home and where I spend days reading, reflecting, and writing. Here is where my heart truly resides.
I’ve always wanted to create an independent publisher that feels like this porch.
A place where authors can write for hours and share their stories; and where readers can enjoy great books and get inspired by the power and emotion of words. A place where people from different walks of life can come together to share stories and keep this fascinating tradition alive.
